Meet Golnar, a handmade ethnic Kurmanji bride doll from the village of Sarmeran, located in Esfarayen County, North Khorasan Province, Iran. This beautiful doll is crafted by an elderly artisan affectionately known as Bibi, who hand-stitches every detail with love and care.

With her traditional Kurmanji dress, hand-embroidered details, and wool-stuffed body, she introduces children and art lovers alike to the rich culture of the Kurmanj people and the age-old folk tale of Golnar and Bahman, a romantic legend rooted in northern Iran.

 The Tale Behind the Doll

Golnar, a brave young Kurmanji girl, is engaged to Bahman, a warrior from her tribe. But when Bahman is away, their village is attacked by a rival Turkmen tribe, and Golnar is taken captive. Upon Bahman’s return, he searches for her in vain and, heartbroken, sings the mournful ballad “Li Yareh” on a mountain rock.
