The “Shamaran” doll has been revived and handcrafted by one of the artisan girls of “Bashdareh” village, Dargaz city of Khorasan Razavi province. based on the story of Kormanji Pari Kavianlu. Shamaran (Shah Maran/King of snakes) is one of the main motifs in handicrafts of Kurdish regions. In the belief of the Kurds of Kurdistan and Khorasan, Shamaran is the goddess of medicinal plants. The legend of Shamaran is popular amongst Kurdish people. This figure, which has a head similar to a girl and a tail similar to a snake’s head, has been registered as a national intangible heritage. Shamaran doll is totally handmade and made of cotton and wool and is very detailed delicate.
