About the Art – Card Weaving (Varis Bafi):
Card weaving, known locally as Varis Bafi, is an ancient Iranian craft practiced by Bakhtiari nomads. Unlike loom-based textiles, this technique uses small perforated cards to create strong, decorative, warp-faced bands—ideal for belts, straps, and trims.
Each woven belt carries the story of seasonal migration (Kuch), the textures of mountain life, and the rhythms of an age-old tradition. Today, through Rooztatish’s community-based programs, this endangered craft is being reimagined into sustainable accessories for the modern world.
Crafted in Shazdeh Abdollah, Khuzestan
This nomadic village lies between the winter pastures of Andika (Khuzestan) and the summer highlands of Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari. Rooztatish collaborates with local women and girls to revive their textile heritage and create long-term income through ethical craftsmanship.
