Description
A distinctive and concept-driven box, thoughtfully designed as a meaningful gift for those who hold a deep appreciation for Iran and its cultural heritage.
A narrative of love, empathy, awareness, and homeland
This piece was designed as a response to a fundamental question:
if we were to identify the four pillars that have kept Iran alive and dynamic throughout history, and express them through concepts found in the works of Persian poets, which poets and which ideas would represent them?
The result is four poets, four verses, and four core concepts:
- Hafez:
“I am the one famed in the city for loving;
I am the one whose eyes have never been tainted by ill vision.”
— A symbol of Love - Saadi:
“Human beings are members of a whole,
In creation of one essence and soul.”
— A symbol of Empathy - Rumi:
“With every breath, the world is renewed,
Yet we remain unaware of this renewal.”
— A symbol of Awareness - Ferdowsi:
“If there is no Iran, let my body not remain;
May no one live upon this land if it is not.”
— A symbol of Homeland
Love is a deep connection with the self.
Empathy is a connection with others.
Awareness is a connection with something beyond both self and others—like a canopy that extends over us.
Homeland is the place where all human experiences unfold.
On the four sides of this box, visual motifs represent these concepts through traditional Iranian art:
- The sun, symbolizing love, inspired by Shamseh motifs in Qajar-era embroidery
- Two birds, symbolizing empathy, inspired by bird motifs in Kerman Pateh embroidery
- Water, symbolizing awareness, inspired by water patterns in Qashqai carpets
- The mountain, symbolizing homeland, inspired by mountain motifs in Kalpurgan pottery
These elements are illustrated using the technique of Pateh embroidery.
The box is constructed from six interconnected panels that can be separated and arranged side by side on a wall. At its heart lies a mirror-work lamp, symbolizing the illumination created through the unity of these four concepts.
This piece is also a meaningful gift for someone who holds a deep love for Iran. It can be given as a symbolic gesture—representing not just a place, but a shared identity, memory, and emotional connection to homeland.
