We are here because we see a world where these crafts are not only preserved but celebrated. A world where they become a source of pride and sustainable income for the women who make them.
We didn’t come here to “fix” communities. We came to listen, to learn, and to grow alongside them. And along the way, we discovered how much beauty, resilience, and creativity lives in Iran’s villages—waiting to be shared with the world.
Roostatish was born from years of traveling across Iran by bicycle. Founders Mina Kamran and Ehsan Mohtadi spent years journeying from village to village, connecting deeply with rural lifestyles and witnessing first-hand the opportunities and challenges rural communities—especially women—face every day.
During these journeys, they observed countless charity projects and development initiatives aimed at helping rural areas. While well-intentioned, many of these efforts struggled to last. This experience led them to a simple but profound realization:
Solutions designed outside a community often fail to take root inside it.
They came to believe that lasting change must come from within. The role of Roostatish, then, is not to bring pre-packaged answers but to help strengthen community capacities so that local people can create their own solutions—solutions that are rooted in their culture, history, and aspirations.
We work alongside rural women artisans in Iran, helping them turn traditional skills into contemporary, high-quality pieces that resonate with global audiences. From hand-embroidered jewelry to crafted bags and home décor, every Roostatish piece carries a story—a connection between past and future, between maker and wearer.
But Roostatish isn’t just about products. It’s about building bridges:
between tradition and modern design
between rural and urban economies
between people who care about impact and those who can help create it
You don’t have to live in a village to make a difference. You can start by choosing with intention. Every time you buy from Roostatish, you’re not just purchasing art—you’re helping a woman stand taller, send her children to school, and keep her heritage alive for another generation.
You can also share our story, collaborate with us, or simply ask: “How can I help?” Because change always begins with small, human choices.
Roostatish—built from the Persion words “roosta” (village) and “atish” (fire)—is an effort to keep the fire of life in our villages warm and bright. We don’t just sell handicrafts. Selling these crafts helps us implement capacity-building projects in rural communities, through which the society, culture, and all its beauty are preserved and nurtured.
